For
over 30 years, STYX has been synonymous with
heart-pumping rock and roll and searing power
ballads. Their compelling live shows have helped the band build
a legion of devoted fans around the world. The bands resume includes
nearly 30 Top 40 singles, which also puts STYX
among an elite group of acts who have had Top 10 hits
in three different decades. Enduringclassics including
“Lady,” “Babe,”
‘Blue Collar Man,” “Fooling
Yourself,” “Show Me The Way,” and many,
many, more helped STYX become the first band to have four
consecutive albums go double platinum. Their latest effort,
Big Bang Theory, which was released in 2005,
once again put them back on the Billboard charts. The album features
reinterpretations by the band of some classic rock songs including
the Beatles “I Am The Walrus,” which reached #2 on
classic rock radio. The band continues to keep a torrid pace performing
over 100 shows a year while also writing and recording new material.

Lionel
Richie began his illustrious career with the Commodores,
growing an extremely loyal fan base through his unbelievable voice
and wonderful songwriting. Mega hits including “Easy,”
“Three Times a Lady,” and “Still” cemented
their stature as one of the most popular groups of the 70s. This
success led Lionel Richie to begin accepting songwriting commissions
from other artists. Richie wrote “Lady” for
country superstar Kenny Rogers and the romantic ballad, “Endless
Love,” for Diana Ross which became the
most successful single in Motown history, spending an
astonishing nine weeks at number one. Its success encouraged Lionel
Richie to branch out into a full-fledged solo career in
1982. His debut album produced the chart-topping
single “Truly,” which was followed by an incredible
string of 13 consecutive Top Ten hits such as “All
Night Long,” “Hello,” and “Say You, Say
Me.” In May of 2006, Lionel Richie headlined the
world famous New Orleans JazzFest to critical acclaim. His long
awaited new album Coming Home, is scheduled for
release in the Fall of 2006.Make

Ike
Cohen Celebrates 95th Birthday A Terrific For-Charity Party
Legendary
local hotelier Ike Cohen, celebrated his birthday on June 3rd
at the Manchebo Beach Resort & Spa. Ike and his crew orchestrated
a fantastic Manchebo Charity Fair in honor of the day, a mega
party benefiting the Ike Cohen Charity Foundation.
The
Ike Cohen foundation helps sustain local charities and foundations
in need, where public support is unavailable it pitches in to
finance much-needed social projects in partnership with CEDE Aruba,
which is a foundation affiliated to a Dutch fund.
Ike
explains, “This is a community effort. We continue to make
contribution here and offer support to not-for-profit-foundations,
as we are generously supported by this community for more than
10 years. We accept contributions from the public,” he continues,”
match the amounts with Dutch funds, and help where help is needed.”
Ike’s
birthday party featured an abundance of excellent food, music,
dance and fun, filling the gardens of the Manchebo Beach Resort
& Spa.
The
party started early with mariachi music and top notch entertainment
by Claudius Philips and his group OREO, as well as Tsunami with
talented singers Ofo & Sasha. Two giant birthday cakes and
free flowing libations raise spirits as party-goers danced late
into the night.
Even
the door prizes were special, including for example a CMB Kompa
Leon credit card with Afls 2,500 credit and an Aruba lottery ticket,
valid for 1 year, or 104 drawings.
This
time, veteran event organizer Ed Malone lent a hand to the foundation
and under his spell, the party was taken to the next level, with
commemorative posters, a web site, a unique and super-attractive
auction, as well as an impressive list of sponsors. Party-goers
participated with a donation of Afls 125, per person, and were
rewarded with a great party paid for by the birthday boy. 100%
of party ticket-sale proceeds went to the Ike Cohen Charity Foundation.
The
event, Ike stated, will be benefiting the White Yellow Cross of
Aruba and home care for the elderly.
